Dr. Gunter Gao, chairman of Sunbase International (Holdings), is a prominent businessman and a patriot of China and Hong Kong. For the past 30 years, apart from investing in Hong Kong, Australia, the United States, and other places, he has also poured in huge investments in Mainland China to develop various industries, transport, infrastructure, high-technology, and other business sectors. In the '90s, Dr. Gao became a forerunner in the economic development happening in the Northeast Region. He also poured in large amount of capital to the Harbin Economic Development Zone – becoming the Hong Kong entrepreneur with the largest local investment. Later, he was also the first to earn the distinction of Honorary Citizen of Harbin. Dr. Gao is the pioneer of China's west development drive. As early as the mid-'90s, he already saw the tremendous opportunity in and the potential of west development drive. He took the lead and visited provinces such as Yunnan and Shaanxi for inspection and research. After nearly a year and after investing tens of millions, he proposed the establishment of the famous "China Bio Valley", which is today highly valued in the country and in Yunnan Province.

　　Dr. Gao also took the initiative during the early '90s in investing more than 4 billion yuan in China's large-scale machinery, steel and iron, cement, and other state-owned enterprises. His move not only effectively carried out the reorganization of the enterprises but also solved the employment problem of close to 50,000 workers. Hence, he was widely commended by many Chinese leaders. Dr. Gao also established the first Sino-foreign joint venture – a large-scale aviation enterprise which owns 10 planes and flies more than fifty air routes. In and out of the country, Dr. Gao has also invested in railway transport and controls a leading market share of railway passenger cars and the upscale passenger train rental.Business he has invested in involves bulk commodity operations and international trade, investment management and capital operations, urban services and property management, stem cell life science and modern health industry, culture and tourist industry, infrastructures and urban commercial complex investment and operations, new energy and energy resources, hi-tech compound semiconductor and optoelectronics industry and many others.

　　Dr. Gao loves both China and Hong Kong. In fulfilling Hong Kong's steady transition to China and in the process of the smooth return of the region's sovereignty to the motherland, Dr. Gao made numerous important contributions – something that is rarely known – for which he was praised by the leaders of China and affirmed by the people of Hong Kong. Before and after Hong Kong's return to the motherland, Dr. Gao generously supported the publication of The Great Rehearsal in the Taiwan Straits, The PLA Garrison Troops in Hong Kong, Scanning China's Peripheries, A Firm Rock in Midstream, and other valuable books with the intent of promoting the glorious image of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) as a civilizing and a powerful force and of spreading the superior tradition and revolutionary spirit of the PLA. The exercises conducted by the PLA in the Taiwan Straits, Hong Kong's return to China, the areas bordering the motherland, and the 1998 anti-flood rescue – all of these were crucial in vividly portraying the glorious, heroic image and the indomitable revolutionary spirit of the PLA to public. This was especially true with the large-scale picture album, The PLA Garrison Troops in Hong Kong which had the honor of carrying a personal written encouragement from the former president of China, Mr. Jiang Zemin. The then Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Tung Chee Hwa personally attended the book's launching.

　　Aside from carrying out widespread investment activities in the mainland, Dr. Gao is very much concerned with social and public service work in both China and Hong Kong. To date, he has donated about 120 million Renminbi for disaster relief, the Charity, the economy and scientific research, education, sports, culture and arts, and the development of a base for patriotic education. Dr. Gao also currently seats as the president of Hong Kong's largest cultural association – the Association of Chinese Culture of Hong Kong – an organization with more than 400 mass organizations and more than 75,000 members. The association's mission is to spread Chinese culture, to successfully realize the "one country, two systems" policy, to promote Hong Kong's stability and prosperity, and to contribute to the great unification of the motherland. Dr. Gao is the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Justice of the Peace, who is also the founder and president of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification, greatly contributing to China’s unification.



　　The government service and public posts held by Dr. Gao includes: the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Justice of the Peace, member of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, 11th and 12th Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of the CPPCC National Committee, member of the Election Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive, member of the Election Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Legislative Council, member of the Election Committee for Hong Kong Deputies to the National People’s Congress, Chairman of the Cultural Association of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Association of Chinese Culture of Hong Kong, Founding Chairman of the Hongkong Association for the Promotion of Peacful Reunification of China, Chairman of the General Association for the Promotion of Cross-Strait Peaceful Development of Hong Kong, Chairman of the China and Hong Kong Trade and Investment Promotion Association Limited, and the Director of the Sino-foreign Entrepreneur Cooperative Committee. Furthermore, for a time, Dr. Gao acted successively as the economic consultant of the Yunnan Municipal Government as well as that of Tianjin City, Shaanxi Province, and Hebei Province. He was also the senior economic consultant of the Hubei Municipal Government, investment promotion consultant of Jilin Province, honorary consultant of Zhejiang Overseas Exchange Association, Honorary President of the Chamber of Commerce of Liaoning Province Overseas Chinese Investment, Honorary President of the Chamber of Commerce of Jiangsu Province Overseas Chinese Investment, Scientists Heilongjiang Province Entrepreneur Association honorary president, Nanjing, China Overseas Friendship Association, honorary president and also many international and domestic society duties.
